Dr.Web, an antivirus software made from Russia has released their major update version 6.0 last month. The most significant modification incorporated in Dr.Web products of the sixth version is the completely changed file monitor SpIDer Guard. It provides support of 64-bit versions of Windows and improves performance and efficiency of anti-viruses achieved by optimizing interaction between the file monitor and the anti-virus engine. Now the Scanning Engine service processes scan requests from all components of the anti-virus. Dr.Web SpIDer Mail also underwent significant changes. The improved anti-virus control module SpIDer Agent now features two operation modes: user mode and administration mode. The improved updater module allows users to receive renewed key files with no effort.
During the month of August last year, there was a promotion for China people to get 1 year Dr.Web key for free. Now you can again obtain a free 1 year 1PC license for the latest Dr.Web anti-virus for Windows v6.0 from another Chinese website without any restrictions. The license is not for the PRO version of Dr.Web anti-virus so Firewall will not be included.
1. Go to http://www.updrv.com/win7/drivecampaign/User_Reg.aspx
2. Fill up the form according to the screenshot below. Name, password and password again, email address, QQ number (any digits), and the random CAPTCHA code.
3. Visit http://www.updrv.com/win7/drivecampaign/FdriveAction.aspx
4. Simply select any of the options for every question and click the button. The 16 digit Drweb serial number will be displayed.
5. Download Dr.Web anti-virus for Windows 6.0 and install.

6. When asked for license key file during installation, select Receive key file during installation, click the Next button and continue with the installation.
7. When come to the registration step 1, click Obtain a license key file button and enter the 16 digit serial number and click Next. Dr.Web 6.0 will verify the serial number.
8. At step 3, if you have previously owned a Dr.Web license, you can enter it to extend your license an extra 100 days. If not, just leave the boxes empty and click Next.
9. At step 4, fill up the user information form and click next. Continue with the steps which will end up with downloading a license key file and store it in the directory where Dr.Web is installed.
Alternatively, you can manually convert the serial number to license key file from this page and at point number 6, you can directly load the key file to the program to activate it.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: I am not sure if this is a bug in Dr.Web 6.0 updater or the licensing restriction. After installing Dr.Web 6.0 and activated with a valid license, it still shows v6.0. However after you’ve finished updating the first time and rebooted your computer, Dr.Web 6.0 will be reverted back to v5.0. The important tip here is to set the Dr.Web updater to only update virus databases. You can do that by right clicking on the Dr.Web system tray icon and select Updater. Click the Settings button and select “Update virus databases only” at the update mode and click OK.
Now you can update Dr.Web 6.0 without being reverted back to v5.0. If you have missed this, you would have to uninstall Dr.Web, reinstall and change the Update settings. According to the report that I posted 2 months ago on the best performing antivirus, Dr.Web is one of the slowest to finish a full scan. The latest Dr.Web 6.0 still took very long to finish a complete scan. They should consider improving the scan time.
