Bittorrent file sharing technology has been around for many years already and it is one of the main source for computer users to get their favorite music, movies, ebooks, tv shows, software, and etc. As long as it is an intangible product, most of it can be found in bittorrent sites. There are public bittorrent tracker site such as the famous The Pirate Bay and Mininova but these public torrent sites tends to have too much fake stuff such as embedded trojans or even worst, fake torrents uploaded by Anti-Piracy Organizations to catch you red-handed for downloading pirated materials.
There are also a lot of private bittorrent trackers that are more reliable and offers faster downloading speed due to the members seeding the torrent to try to get a good ratio. The chances of being caught by anti-piracy organization also lessen compared to public torrent trackers. However, these private torrents are not easy to get in. You either have an invitation where your friend invites you in or you just have to wait until they open up the registration to public.
A year ago I introduced a small program called Tracker Checker that regularly checks the status of private BitTorrent trackers for open registrations. The only annoyance is you have to keep the program running all the time on your computer. Here is another method where you can monitor 500+ private bittorrent tracker sites for signup openings without installing or running any software on your computer.
Bittorrent TRackers Automatic Checking System aka BTRACS is an automatic information site which periodically checks closed community bittorrent trackers for being open for signup. Some closed community bittorrent trackers’ signups are closed and are “invite only” (meaning, if you have a user, you can invite your friend to join or a friend can invite you). The BTRACS main page refreshes every 10 minutes and shows a list of bittorrent private trackers open for signup. If you know of a closed community bittorrent tracker you want to share with the rest of the world, you can add it to BTRAC’s database and it will checked with the rest of the bittorrent trackers.

Currently, there is a total of 308 bittorrent trackers in the BTRACS database and 98 bittorrent trackers are open for signup. BTRACS also shows the Alexa ranking of the added bittorrent site on the list. Websites with a rank closer to the top (number 1) are so to speak more popular than others because they seemingly have more traffic, meaning more people view these websites, meaning they update frequently, meaning you WANT to go visit those websites. BTRACS website contains adult advertisements. Just thought you should know this before you visit the site. Thanks to Pablos for sharing this with us!

Another similar site is TrackerChecker.org.

Currently it has 500+ private bittorrent tracker sites in its database and 200+ private bittorrent trackers are open for signup. Unlike BTRACS, TrackerChecker is able to display all trackers that are in the database so you can check if the private torrent that you want to check is in the list or not. If not, you can always add the the tracker to the list using their simple form. It also supports sorting of the list based on the name, status or last updated information.
