  • Problems viewing downloaded movie

Have you ever had problems viewing movies clips downloaded from the internet or forwarded by your friends through email?
Can be very frustrating when your friend describes the attachment as “MUST WATCH” but you just couldn’t thinking there might be something wrong with your computer.

Mostly it is caused by not having the correct codec to play the movie clips.
Codec means Compressor-decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video.
Since there are so many types of codecs, you wouldn’t know which to install and maybe installing the too many and wrongly configuring it will make your system unstable.

    Introducing, K-Lite Codec Pack.
    K-Lite Codec Pack
The K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular movie formats and even some rare formats.
The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs:

  • It it always very up-to-date with the latest versions of the codecs
  • It is very user-friendly and the installation is fully customizable, meaning that you can install only those components that you really want
  • It’s easy to make an unattended installation.
  • It has been very well tested, so that the package doesn’t contain any conflicting codecs. It tries to avoid potential problems with existing codecs and even fixes some problems
  • It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies
  • There are different packages. From small to extra-large
  • There are three versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack: Basic, Standard and Full.
Basic contains only the most essential things. It contains everything you need to be able to play the most popular and widespread formats. It is small enough to fit on a single floppy. Also great for including on your movie cds.
Standard contains everything you need to play all the most commonly used formats. This package should be enough for the average user.
Full contains even more codecs. It also has encoding support for various formats. This package is for power users and people who do their own encodings.
There also is a Mega version. It includes everything that the Full version has, plus some extra things, like support for QuickTime and RealMedia files.

Works on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. Works on my computer as well and should work on yours 😉

  • Automated 1 Click Convert DVD to VCD

3 days ago, I talked about how to backup your DVD by converting it to VCD/SVCD.
It’s a long process and you need 4 softwares to do it. Worst part is, some of the software are trialware and you need to purchase them.
Save your money and use the FREE….

    DVDx v2.3 !
    DVDx v2.3

DVDx allows you to convert DVD to VCD2.0 or SCVD1.0 or DivX in one step (Including multiplexing, splitting). It produces good quality movies in MPEG1/2 format and you don’t need to have 5GB or more free on your hard disk. DVDx has been designed especialy for unexperimented users, it is a simple and intuitive program. You only need Nero to write your VCD/SVCD.

There hasn’t been any updates since the last release of version 2.3 on 18/08/2004 but it still works great without problems.
It even has optimized support to benefit from dual processors and Pentium4 Hyper-Threading computer.
The official download from website is very slow, so I provided a link to download from SourceForge.

Just thought I should share this with my readers (IF there’s any)
Posting your email address on a website is a sure-fire way to get an Inbox full of unsolicited email advertisements.
I currently know two methods on how to protect your by hiding them from email-harvesting robots.

    1. E-mail Icon (in image): Robots can’t read images! They only read texts. Perhaps if one day someone developed a robot that is able to do Optical Character Recognition (OCR), then this image method is quite useless.
    Example,
FREE E-Mail Icon Generator for GMail, Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo!, AOL and many more!

    2. Encode/Encrypt: The FREE Enkoder Form below enables you to protects email addresses by converting them into encrypted JavaScript code, hiding them from email-harvesting robots while revealing them to real people.
FREE Enkoder Form to encrypt your E-mail address

No matter what, the only way to be completely safe is to not publish your address at all. Or use a contact form.
