  • Free Batch Thumbnail Creator and JPG Picture Resizer with Command Line Support • Raymond.CC

    I was looking for a tool that is able to create thumbnails of images in a folder. Although FILEminimizer Pictures is really good, but I am looking for something that is small, free, portable and supports command line. Preferably free so that everyone can use them and don’t need to resort to any cracks or keygens or spending money on it. I also wanted it to be small and portable unlike a lot of bloated batch image resizers which requires installation that you can easily find in Google. Most importantly, I wanted it to be automated without showing the graphical user interface.

    I really had a hard time searching for it because the Google SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) was showing a lot of shareware or they are really bloated software that needs to be installed. After flipping through a lot of search results pages, I finally found what I wanted and it’s called Picture Resizer. I guess what took me so long to find it is because I kept searching using the keyword “thumbnail” but not the word “resize”. This tool is pretty amazing on how it works.

    Picture Resizer 4.0 is an easy-to-use and free tool for batch resizing of JPG pictures and photos. It can be as easy as drag and dropping a folder with a lot of JPG images to the file and it automatically does the rest, or you can use command line parameters for more advanced scenarios. What make this tool so special is the size of output pictures is controlled by the name of the application. Here’s an example.

    By default the file name for the Picture Resizer is PhotoResize400.exe. If you drag a really huge JPG image and drop it to PhotoResize400.exe, the JPG image will automatically scaled to 400px in height maintaining the aspect ratio.

    The resized JPG images will be saved next to the originals. Names of the new pictures will be based on the original names, with a suffix indicating their size. For example, the resized version of MyPhoto.jpg will be called MyPhoto-400.jpg, where the number 400 indicates the size of the picture. You can go to the official Picture Resizer website and play around with the “Renaming wizard” for more examples.

    Like I said earlier, other than controlling the output of the images based on the name of the application, you can combine it with command line parameters. Here is a official page with all the command line and examples.

    With a command like this combined with the file name, I am able to generate thumbnails on all JPG images found in C:\ drive and save the thumbnails to C:\resized. The JPG images will be resized to 30% with a low compression quality for speed.

    Other than that, if you just run the program by itself, you can actually install a context menu for you to easily resize the image by right clicking on a folder or JPG file and select Resize Picture.

    My only gripe with Picture Resize is that it only process JPG image file types and no other image formats such as BMP, PNG, GIF, and etc. Would be a perfect tool, or can even be used by forensics to digg out all the images saved on computer if the author if this tool “RealWorld Graphics” can make it to support more image formats.

    Found one of the latest Windows Vista cracker released on 15th February 2007 by scaramonga. It seems that this crack will work with all versions of RTM Windows Vista x86 & x64. Your windows will be 100% genuine and you will be able to install all updates.

    1. Install Windows Vista WITHOUT a product key.

    2. Once Vista is installed run this program and click the ‘Crack‘ button, selecting ‘Allow‘ when Vista asks.

    3. Wait until a dialog box appears then click ‘OK‘ and REBOOT.

    4. After Reboot, run this program again and click the ‘Validate‘ button to make Vista Genuine.

    5. Click the ‘Check‘ button and a dialog box should popup after a short while showing the number of minutes left for activation (43200).

    6. Close the dialog box and wait a few minutes, then click the ‘Check’ button again to verify the number of minutes is the same as before.

    This Vista crack is much easier to use compared to Dr. Chang’s crack. Just run the executable file and click the appropriate buttons according to instructions above.

    I’m aware there are a lot of pirates out there in the world, and I’m even more so aware of the problems/solutions they bring to many of our doorsteps. For one, the pirates are destroying the way the music industry works, in that downloading a song and not paying for it ever will cause that artist to be let go from the label. At the same time, a pirate that downloads a lot of music often times will pay back the artist better by going to a show or buy their merchandise.

    However, I’m not going to debate the good/bad debate with you, nor do I really care if you are a pirate or not. But what I’d like to do today is to introduce you to a large, but relatively unknown site by the name of Jamendo.

    Jamendo You can’t judge a site without visiting it but Jamendo is one of those sites in my bookmarks I visit weekly. It is a great site, hosting all kinds of independent and different artists around the world. There are some from Canada and the US, some from Russia and Germany, others from Italy and Spain, and still others who hail from India! It is literally a taste of every country out there in the world. Then come the genres which range from Rap/Hip-Hop to Rock, Religious to Jazz, and Pop to Electronic. So no matter what your tastes are, there is rest assured, a band for that. They also have online “radio” stations you can tune into, as well as offering a full sample of an album for you to listen to online.

    And this manages to get even better. Jamendo offers the full albums for download for free, in MP3 and OGG format. In both cases, you get a zip file with high quality music, a text file with a small amount of background on the artist, and high quality album art, all for free. Make sure you keep the speakers below 10 when you listen to the bands though… don’t want to miss out any of the other bands because one caught your eye and made you deaf because you turned it up too loud.

    They also offer a chance to donate to the artist of your choice, a chance to post on the artist’s own dedicated forum hosted on Jamendo, even a chance to see if your new favourite band will be playing near you any time soon. So free music, great music, great selection, and a way to converse with your band of choice? What more could you ask for?

    Just 2 days after I’ve introduced a software that I used to extract computer’s hardware information, Pete Hahn from Australia kindly emailed me to let me know that there’s another FREE tool that can do the same. Not only it can extract your hardware information, it can also get the list of software installed on your computer, hotfixes installed from Windows Update, what anti-virus software installed on your computer and etc.

    The Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks, and displays the results in your default Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server.

    The file size to download Belarc Advisor is only 1MB. It runs on Windows 95/98/Me, NT 4, Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003. As for Vista, I’m not so sure on that because it didn’t say anything on their website. Belarc Advisor requires browser such as Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox, Maxthon and etc to display the results.

    Once downloaded, just run advisor.exe to install. After installation, it will automatically run and you’ll see a dialog box similar to the image below. That is when the software is extracting your computer’s hardware and software information.

    In just a few seconds later, your default browser will be ran and the results will be displayed.

    A few important note:
    1. The license associated with this product allows for free personal use only. Use on multiple PCs in a corporate, educational, military or government installation is prohibited.
    2. The CIS (Center for Internet Security) has developed security benchmarks for Windows 2000, XP Professional and 2003 versions. There are no benchmarks for XP Home or 95/98 versions of Windows.

    This tool is free and great but too bad it doesn’t have a DOS version where you don’t need to have operating system to extract the hardware inventory.

    Today I launched JDownloader and I got a notice that there is a major update. I updated it and noticed that the whole program’s GUI has changed to a much faster, nicer and easier to use interface.

    I have to admit that the old interface is a little confusing and not so user friendly. The new layout tab helps a lot in making this program looks more tidy.

    I was also very excited to learn that the new FlashGot now supports JDownloader! I have FlashGot installed on my Firefox browser and every time when I wanted to download files from RapidShare, I had to manually run JDownloader and let the clipboard monitor catch the links. But with FlashGot integration, I can just right click on the link and select “FlashGot Link” or “FlashGot Selection” if it is a text.

    I wasn’t able to get FlashGot working with JDownloader at first. No matter what I did, JDownloader is always grayed out from the list of supported download managers. Then I downloaded the full version from JDownloader’s website, extract and ran it, this time I get a confirmation window asking me to install Firefox integration. I am very sure that didn’t come out when I upgraded from 0.6 to 0.7. After clicking OK, you can now select JDownloader from the Download Manager list.

    I noticed that JDownloader is being developed very actively if compared to other downloaders such as CryptLoad. They’ve been talking about their version 2.0 for a long time but still nothing after so many months. JDownloader is FREE and it requires Java Runtime Environment to run.     To manage a printer that is shared on another computer, all you need to do is to connect to the computer’s share, double click the shared printer and you’ll be prompted to install the printer driver on your computer first before you can connect, print, and manage the printer. The following message should appear: “You are about to connect to a printer on computer, which will automatically install a print driver on your machine. Printer drivers may contain viruses or scripts that can be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that the computer sharing this printer is trustworthy. Would you like to continue?”.

    Once you click yes, the printer driver will be installed on your computer. If you’re an administrator on a network that has more than 10 printers, that means you’ll have to install more than 10 printer drivers on your computer to be able to manage the network printers print queue. You know me, I try to avoid installing as much crap on my computer as possible. Fortunately there is a free tool that allows me to manage the print queue on shared printers without installing the drivers. I’d rather install one software to do that rather than installing 10 types of drivers.

    BurnSoft Print Queue Manager is a handy remote printer manager. This beats adding the printer to your local machine just to manage it. With this application you can connect to any remote machine that is sharing a printer. Once you Connect to it, you can watch the print queue of a selected printer or pause, delete and resume that printer.

    Just in case you need something a little more automated, this can also function in the command prompt. Just by typing in: pqm.exe [servername or ip address] /[Printer] /[PAUSE, PURGE, RESUME]

    This tool is very old and haven’t been updated since year 2002. At first I thought that maybe this tool wouldn’t work but it actually works! It did mention that it can support Windows 95, 98, ME, Windows NT 4.0, W2k Pro, Advance Server, Windows XP home or Pro but not Vista.

    When installing Print Queue Manager, you might encounter a few version conflict errors that says “A file being copied is not newer than the file currently on your system. It is recommended that you keep your existing file.” Just click the Yes button. Another error you will encounter is “An error occurred while registering the file ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32\activeds.tlb’. Just click the Ignore button and the Print Queue Manager software will still work.

    What the heck is an IP Address?

    An identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 1.160.10.240 could be an IP address.

    Within an isolated network, you can assign IP addresses at random as long as each one is unique. However, connecting a private network to the Internet requires using registered IP addresses (called Internet addresses) to avoid duplicates.

    The four numbers in an IP address are used in different ways to identify a particular network and a host on that network. Four regional Internet registries — ARIN, RIPE NCC, LACNIC and APNIC — assign Internet addresses from the following three classes.

  • Class A – supports 16 million hosts on each of 126 networks
  • Class B – supports 65,000 hosts on each of 16,000 networks
  • Class C – supports 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks

    The number of unassigned Internet addresses is running out, so a new classless scheme called CIDR is gradually replacing the system based on classes A, B, and C and is tied to adoption of IPv6.

  • Hitman Pro – When You Need It Gone… • Raymond.CC

    I’ve always been someone who enjoys trying out new toys, new gadgets, new software, and testing it out to the max of it’s potential. I’ve also been one who enjoys finding useless trivial things to purchase with the money I make from my work place. Due to both of these ‘problems’, I’ve sometimes gotten infected in my eagerness to try something new. So for me, I’m in the need protection against a lot of different malware. For example, when I was younger and more foolish, I used to download a lot of warez, and used to get infected all the time. These days, I’m much wiser and don’t download any pirated software, resorting to using freewares, freebies, open source programs, or trials to get the job done. However, a good number of my friends don’t see this light and get themselves constantly infected, so it’s my job to clean up after them.

    Recently, one of my friends was hit with a very bad virus that I’m sure we’ve all heard of at one point in our lives or another: Win32/Vundo. And being someone who lacks common sense in everything that he does, he went and downloaded even more viruses trying to fix it, one of them being the A variant of Win32/Conflicker. So imagine my shock and horror to discover all this swarming around on his PC and I was expected to fix this without a wipe and reload. On one of our forum member’s insistence, Leofelix, I was assured that there would be no problem in wiping out all this malware. And you know what?

    He was right.

    Hitman Pro is a powerful, cloud-based anti virus that has managed to prove it’s worth several times over since I’ve started carrying it around on my USB Recovery Stick. It has managed to get all of what I’d expect ESET (my present antivirus) to get, plus things that it misses. It doesn’t take very long to scan, taking a grand total of about ten minutes at the very most (what I had to sit though to clean that horrid PC) and manages to get everything I’ve tested on clean. It also will not conflict with your present antivirus because it is a completely on demand antivirus, and will do scans for free. To actually remove the malware requires the activation of the trial, but it isn’t so bad because of the fact that it is a 30 day trial. Below is a screenshot from their site showing how it detects viruses.

    Yes, those are the logos of the antiviruses it uses: NOD32 Antivirus, Avira AntiVir, Prevx, G DATA Anti-Virus and formally, a-squared Anti-Malware, now known as Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

    Special thanks to Leofelix, the one who recommended this amazing software to me, I’ve also received two Hitman Pro one year keys, so if you’re someone who constantly gets infected or know someone that does, this will come in handy for cleaning up those nasties.     Sorry for the lack of updates because was busy battling with two issues which is the web server config and my laptop battery problem. After upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on my Acer laptop, one of the annoying problem which I have tolerated for the longest time is the battery. The laptop is about 3 years old and is still using the original battery which is worn out that doesn’t last very long. I noticed that there is a battery icon with a red X on the notification area. Clicking on it tells me to “Consider replacing your battery“. “There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly.” I never cared much about that because most if not all the time my laptop is connected to the direct current (DC) power supply.

    One day I brought the laptop out and suddenly it just shuts off by itself even though I am very sure I saw that there is still around over 60% of power left on the battery. I did a lot of research and found out that Windows 7 is able to effectively tell if a battery needs to be replaced. I wanted to order a new battery directly from Acer but the service center is 45 minutes drive from my place. I didn’t want to waste time so through online I bought a new OEM battery from a third party company. When the new battery arrived, to my disappointment that the battery fail to charge. Windows 7 reports “No battery is detected” and the battery LED on the laptop is blinking orange.


    I thought I bought the correct battery because it is the same model as the original battery printed Model P/N: BTP-AQJ1. I had to send the new OEM battery back to get a replacement thinking that it is probably faulty. Received a new battery for the second time but still experiencing the same problem. The seller then told me that it is a common problem on Acer and this is caused by newer version of BIOS. I downgraded to every available older version of BIOS but the battery was still unable to charge. I reasoned with the seller that this problem cannot be caused by the BIOS because the battery LED starts blinking orange whenever the DC is connected WITHOUT even powering on the laptop. The seller agreed and very much later sent me a new batch of the battery but still no go.

    I gave up, called Acer and ordered a new battery. When the battery arrived, I picked it up from the service center and was shocked to see that the battery ordered from Acer cannot charge too! There is just no logic why my original battery can still charge but 4 new batteries including the one that ordered from Acer can’t. So I brought my laptop together with the original and new Acer battery to the service center and finally after testing a couple of different batteries, they found out that it was an incompatible battery problem. There is a sticker with bar code and random letters and numbers which is more important that the Model Part Number BTP-AQJ1.

    Take note of the bold part and that is what you should be searching for when you want to buy a new Acer laptop battery. If you wonder why Acer sent me a different battery model and not the same one as the original, that is because the original battery is obsolete and no longer in production. By the way, if you think that Windows 7 does a bad job in providing information on the battery, you should definitely try BatteryBar.

    I’m writing up this solution today even though I was planning on alternating between Windows and Linux posts, but today’s post on Windows is because I got a call from one of my friends recently to help them out. Whenever they launched something, anything at all, they would have an error message pop up letting them know that their system was running low on system memory. Now, before some people jump in and say, “Well Paul, you could tell them to add a stick of ram to their computer”, this computer has four gigs of ram already in it, and they are using Windows 7 32 bit. On top of that, they have a terabyte of hard drive space that I threw in there the last time I was over, because they are one of those that likes to save… well, let’s just say “pictures” for the sake of argument.

    While the error wasn’t because of said “pictures”, it is still a very common error if you run very labour intensive processes on your computer, such as Adobe Photoshop/Premier or anything like that on a not so powerful computer. So I’m going to tell you how to resolve it inside Windows XP and Windows 7.


    Most people know how to fix this problem inside of Windows XP, as under Windows XP, it’s well documented on many sites. The steps are quite simple:

    1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
    3. In the Performance pane, click Settings.
    4. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
    5. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
    6. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.
    7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

    However, since my buddy’s PC was not running Windows XP but instead, Windows 7, I had to dig around for a little bit before I found where it had been moved to. Unlike Windows XP, they’ve moved it to a bit of an “off-the-beaten-path” location. I did manage to find it’s new hiding spot in about five minutes worth of time.

    1. Open Computer up and hit the System Properties button, or Right Click on computer and hit Properties, or even still, go to the Control Panel and open the System button
    2. Then on the left hand side, there’s a button marked Advanced System Settings
    3. On the popup that opens, make sure you’re on the Advanced tab, then hit the button marked Settings under the Performance subsection
    4. After that, hit the Advanced tab on that new popup, then hit the Change button for the Virtual Memory sub-section
    5. Finally, once here, uncheck the “Automatically Manage Paging” option and increase the size manually.

    Now, while I’ve shown you how to manually change your Page File in Windows 7, I would like to throw this out there as a disclaimer. Windows, from and including XP should be able to to this automatically. However, this is not always the case, hence why I showed you this way. If you reduce your page file because you want to regain space, you will run into fatal errors and things acting up. For some reason on my buddy’s computer, his was disabled and we don’t know why, hence why I had to manually change it for him. If you are not having any problems with Virtual Memory, DO NOT TOUCH IT.

    You can’t find a product called Security Suite CBE 2009 from the official Kaspersky’s website. This version of Kaspersky is not for sale but it is provided for free by Computer Bild, one of the best selling German language computer magazine in Europe. If you didn’t know, Computer Bild has been providing this free version of Security Suite CBE for a few years already. Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 2009 is a computer security protection software for Windows system that includes antivirus, antimalware, firewall, antispam, proactive defense, application filtering, antiphishing, network attack blocker, antidialer, and banner ad blocker.

    Actually Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 2009 is exactly the same as Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 v8.0.0.504 except that it is re-branded to another name and uses German language interface. Normally if you are using other language versions of Kaspersky, you can easily switch it to English language by hitting the F12 key but it won’t work on Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 2009.

    After taking a break for nearly 3 weeks because of my wedding, today I am back sharing with you guys on how to obtain a license key for Kaspersky Security Suite CBE, where to download the latest version of Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 2009 and how to permanently change the Kaspersky Security Suite CBE German language to English.


    1. Go to this page and fill up the form to register for an account at computerbild.de.

    2. Check your email. You should get an email from ComputerBild with confirmation link to activate your account.

    3. Check the second checkbox to request for the Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 09 license key and click the “Lizenzschlüssel anfordern” button.

    4. Check your email again and this time you’ll get an email containing the license key to activate Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 2009. (The license key that you get will always be the same. So don’t bother requesting multiple times with different accounts)

    5. Download latest Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 2009 and install. Now everything is in German. If you can understand German language, then you don’t really need to change the language to English. For others, continue the steps.

    6. After installation and Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 09 is running, click the Einstellungen button on the top right to bring up the settings window.

    7. Click Parameter and uncheck Selbstschutz aktiveren. Click OK to close the Einstellungen window.

    8. Go to Start > Run, type regedit and click OK. Navigate to the following path in the Registry Editor:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KasperskyLab\protected\AVP8\environment

    9. Look for Localization and double click to edit the string.

    10. Change the value data from de to en.

    11. You can either Restart your computer or terminate Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 09 and run it again to see the changes. See the image below, Kaspersky Security Suite CBE 09 in ENGLISH!

    If you go to the license tab, you should see that the Kaspersky license validity period expires on 9/13/2009 with 82 days remaining. Not to worry on that because Computer Bild has been providing updated license key since 2007 to keep the product activated. Oh, this license key can ONLY be used on Kaspersky Security Suite CBE and not on either Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 or Kaspersky Antivirus 2009.
